There was no new exoneration of prisoners that are part of our list in 2019.
. Three (3) prisoners received clemency:
This is a relatively high number compared to the national average (15 clemency granted nationally).
There was no new case in 2019 being granted on our list.
. Twelve (12) prisoners have had their conviction quashed or their sentence commuted, for example because they have had an unfair trial, or other such factors.
. Three (3) prisoners are currently awaiting a new trial or sentencing hearing
. Six (6) have had execution stays. In 2019, this has included the case of Rodney Reed.
. Nine (9) prisoners were executed (compared to 151 nationally). In 2019, this has included the case of Larry Swearingen, who was executed despite serious doubts on the safety of his conviction. Many others received execution stays.
. Two (2) died of natural causes. They maintained their innocence until the end.
Many other prisoners are still in the process of fighting their case to prove their innocence. They all need your help to prove their innocence.
