1400 men are currently on Nigeria death row. According to a 10 year study by LEDAP, 33% of death sentences are overturned in Appeals Court. According to Ledap, corruption in courts and legal proceedings has led to the wrongful convictions of people sentenced to death. Nie Shubin, a Chinese man has had his conviction for rape and murder overturned, 21 years after he was executed. The Court ruled that the facts used in Mr Nie's trial were "unclear and the evidence insufficient".  China’s immense execution rate along with its history of wrongfully convicting defendants in capital cases has led the international community to call for increased transparency in China’s execution record.
