Removed from Death row
8466 prisoners have been sentenced to death in the USA between 1973 and 2011.
Nearly half of them (49%) have been removed from death row, mainly because
their sentence or their conviction has been overturned, commuted,
or they have died of other causes.
A recent example is Max Soffar who died in April 2016 on death row in Texas. His innocence was supported by a number of organisations, including the ACLU.
