He says:
I just want to get out of here and see and support my children and do what a father should do. I miss them terribly. I just want to be able to get out and work again and help my family that is not doing too well.
Please believe me when I say "I did not do this!" I know that I'm not too smart where the law is concerned. But I have reason to believe that the prosecution coaxed the witness Mandee in what to say at my trial. (...) - Read more

Case summary
On 08/28/1991, during the daytime hours, a 52 year old white lady's residence was burglarized in Dallas, Texas. David Lynn Carpenter was convicted of having kicked in the front door of the victim's residence and cut the victim's throat. He was convicted after the police received an anonymous phone call 6 years later, in 1997, and was sentenced to death on March 23rd, 1999. He has always maintained his innocence. Read more
After review of the records, the support committee of David Lynn Carpenter believes that he did not get a fair trial and is innocent of the crime. This is because:
i) In 1991, at the scene of the crime, hair fibers were found as well as muddy footprints left by tennis shoes in the entrance to the house, along with similar footprints in the dirt outside. These did not belong to David as they did not fit his shoe size.
ii) Fingerprints were also found which could not be matched to David.
iii) The car seen by the eyewitness was a brown, four-door Sedan. David was not at that time, or afterwards, in ownership of such a vehicle. David had an Oldsmobile 88. His car was not registered until October, 1991 (records through the states registrations divisions).
iv) In 1991, tests were conducted by the Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas on evidence found at the scene of the crime. However, on February 17,1999, the Bode Technology Group, Inc in Virginia processed DNA tests on David and concluded: “David Carpenter can be excluded as a source of the hairs found as evidence”.
v) Other incoherences and inconsistent statements, and procedural irregularities exist. Read more
In summary, his support committee underlines that:
. David requested witnesses for his defense. They never appeared at court because his attorneys failed to ask them to testify.
· There is some disparity between David's physical appearance and that of the suspect described by the only material witness
· The forensic scientific evidence, including footprints, fingerprints and DNA tests, failed to prove it matched David to the scene of the crime
· There is a difference between David's car, which was not in working order at the time of the crime, and the car said to have been spotted at the scene
· The possibility of a third party perpetrator exists.
· Witnesses for David's defense were never called to court
· The jury was not allowed to review the court records

What his mother says
I would like to take time to write a message to everyone that has been there for our son.
We deeply appreciate every thing you have done for him. It is really a blessing to know that there are people in this world that do care.
We believe that it had not been for all of you that cared and fought to help him, he might not be alive to day. But through your prayers and help he is doing ok. It saddens me when I walk through those gates to see him. Knowing how they are treated there. But yet when they bring him into
that small cell so we can visit with him, he always has a smile on his face. This you all have made possible through all your help and dedication.
You keep his hopes and spirits up. You don’t make him feel like some kind of monster. And through the hard work of his attorney, Mr. Bruce Anton, the fight continues to save him.
It saddens me that I was too ignorant to know what to do to help him. It was not because I did not want to. It was because I was too scared that any thing that I said or done would get turned into something that was a lie. You would have had to be in the Court room to understand what I am trying to say. I would make a comment and they would turn it into something really bad.
When I would try to tell what was the truth, they would stop me from talking so the jury would not hear it. It was so one sided it was not funny. Please just let me say that we appreciate everyone that has helped. I want to wish you the best in life. We would also like to thank you Mr. Anton for his hard work. Thank all of you! Sincerely.
Diana and David Carpenter
What his supporters say:
Had the jury been given the possibility of hearing and considering evidence from Matthew as the third party perpetrator, given that his appearance was in accordance with that provided by the eyewitness and that he was considered a suspect by police in 1991, there is an overwhelmingly strong probability that David would not himself have been condemned for a murder which he has always claimed he did not commit.
